Guwahati is the largest city of the Indian state of Assam. It is also the largest city in the entire northeast India. The city of Guwahati has a total area of 328 square kilometers and has a total population of about 9.57 lakhs (nearly 1 million) according to 2011 general census. The mighty Brahmaputra river flows throughout the city and it divides Guwahati into two parts viz, North Guwahati and South Guwahati. 1. Assam State Zoo


     Assam State Zoo cum Botanical garden is the largest zoo in the Indian state of Assam and also in the entire northeast India. It is situated on the Hengrabari Reserved Forest in Guwahati and it spreads across 432 acres of land. There are different types of animals and birds in the Zoo e.g, Royal Bengal Tiger, White Tiger, Black Panther, Leopard, Monkeys, Mackack, Deer, One Horned  Rhinoceros, Bear, Crocodile, Turtle, Ostrich, Vulture, Owl, Peacock, Parrot etc. The Assam State Zoo is a tourist hotspot and it attracts millions of tourists every year.

2. Kamakhya Temple


     Kamakhya Temple is the most famous and the most visited pilgrimage Site in the Indian state of Assam. It is situated on the top of the Nilachal Hill in the Western Part of Guwahati city. It is one of the 51 Shakti Pithas. It is a temple complex and are dedicated to the ten Mahacidyas: Kali, Tara, Sodashi, Bagalamukhi, Bhairavi, Bhubaneshwari, Chinnamasta, Dhumavati, Kamalatmika and Matangi. Every year thousands of pilgrims and tourists visit the Kamakhya Temple.

3. Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra


     Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra or simply Kalakshetra is situated in Punjabari, Guwahati, Assam. It's an Arts museum and a cultural center. It is the largest museum in the entire northeast India. The museum has a collection of different items and artifacts of the Assamese culture. Besides being a museum, it has also an open air theatre, a library, a children's park and a cafeteria. The open air theatre can accommodate about 2,000 peoples at a time. Numerous cultural events are held in this open air theatre every year. This is also one of the most visited tourist destinations in Assam.

4. Umananda Island


     Umananda is the smallest River Island in the world and is situated on the Brahmaputra river near Guwahati in the Indian state of Assam. Though Umananda Island is also a part of the Greater Guwahati city and is situated in the Kamrup Metropolitan District of Assam. Umananda Temple is situated on the Island. This is also one of the major tourist attractions in the city of Guwahati.

5. Guwahati Planetarium


     Guwahati Planetarium is an astronomical research center and is situated near the Guwahati high court. It is the largest and the first of its kind in the entire northeast India. In the planetarium regular astronomical shows are carried out on three different languages viz, English, Hindi and Assamese daily. There's also a library in the Planetarium. Some special shows are carried out in the planetarium for students and the locals. It's truly an exciting place to visit in Guwahati.

6. Accoland


     Accoland is a aqua-adventure park situated in patgaon, Guwahati, Assam. It is the largest if it's kind in the north east India. There are a lot of water sports and other adventure activities including the 3d movie theatre. Some of the most prominent watersports and other adventurous things in the Accoland are Aqua Thrills, Sky Train, the Dancing Fairy Ride, Crazy Swing, Pirates of Accoland, Cine Magix etc. It's truly amazing and exciting and it should be in your visit list if you are ever here in Guwahati city.

7. Regional Science Centre


     The Regional Science Centre is generally a Science Museum, situated in Khanapara, Guwahati. The museum hosts some science shows and also you can watch 3D science movies here. Inside the museum there is a labyrinth or mirror magic, a large aquarium and a couple of other scientific things. There's a park outside the museum building where there is a IAF fighter jet. In short, you can experience science live in the Regional Science Centre.

8. Deepor Beel


     The Deepor Beel is a freshwater lake situated on the south-west of Guwahati city, in the Kamrup Metropolitan District of Assam. The Beel is spread across 15.50 sq. miles area. There a twelve villages around the Beel and the residents of these villages are somewhat directly or indirectly dependent on the Beel. There are a different types of fishes found in the Beel and the it is the natural habitat of hundreds of birds. Till now, 215 types of birds are noticed in the Beel and most importantly 70 of them are migratory birds. It is also a relaxation spot from the hectic lifestyle of the Guwahati city. Also, Deepor Beel is an important tourist as well as a picnic spot.

9. Fancy Bazaar


     Fancy Bazaar is the busiest bazaar in the city of Guwahati. It has many lanes and in all the lanes there are hundreds of grocery shops, retail outlets of different products. Fancy Bazaar is famous for products with cheap rates. You will find almost everything of your day to day needs in Fancy Bazaar. It can be referred to as the shoppers Paradise of not only Assam but of the entire northeast India. Fancy Bazaar is surrounded by Panbazaar, Lakhtakia, Paltan Bazaar etc. You can reach Fancy Bazaar from the Guwahati Railway station which is also nearest to it.

10. Bashistha Ashram


     The Basishtha Ashram/Temple is situated on the south-eastern part of Guwahati city. It is a Siva Mandir/Temple which was constructed by the Ahom King Rajeswar Singha back in 1764. It is believed that the Basishtha Ashram was the home of the great sage Basishtha. The Basishtha Ashram is located within the Garbhanga Reserve Forest and there is a a waterfall in the Ashram.
