1. Kaziranga National Park
The Kaziranga National Park is situated in the northeastern Indian state of Assam and on the district of Jorhat. It is one of the largest national parks of India. It's world famous for Indian One Horned Rhinoceros. It is situated on the plains by the Brahmaputra river. Its wetlands, grasslands and forests are also home to different other animals e.g, Tigers, Deers etc. Also, Dolphin is found on the waters of the Kaziranga National Park, which is the state bird of the state of Assam. It attracts thousands of tourists every year.
2. Manas National Park
The Manas National Park is situated on the Himalayan Foothills in the Indian state of Assam. It falls in two districts of Assam, Chirang and Baksa. The national park is known for Tiger Reserve, Elephant Reserve and Biosphere Reserve. It has recently been declared as the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park is also home to some endangered species such as Golden Langur, Pygmy Hog, Assam Roofed Turtle and Hispid Hare etc.
3. Sivsagar
Sivsagar, was formerly the capital of Ahom Kingdom. It was previously known as Rangpur and it served as the Capital of the Ahom Kingdom from 1699 to 1788. The Ahom rulers had built too many excellent architectural buildings and structures in Sivsagar back then and they are still in existence in good condition. Some of those famous historical structures are Rang Ghar, Kareng Ghar, Sivadol etc. which attracts thousands of tourists every year to Sivsagar.
4. Majuli Island
Majuli is the largest river Island in the world with an area of 352 sq. km. and is recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records as so. It is located on the middle of the mighty Brahmaputra near Jorhat, Assam. In 2016, Majuli was declared as a new district of the state of Assam. There are about 1,67,000 population in the Island according to the 2011 Census. The Island has plenty of lush green spaces and fields which are very fertile too. The peoples of Majuli mainly lives on Cultivation. It has also many scenic beauties which attracts thousands of tourists every year to the Island.
5. Umananda Island
Umananda is the smallest river Island in the world and is situated on the Brahmaputra river in Guwahati. Uma is the another name of the Hindu Goddess Parvati and Ananda means happiness, so Umananda means 'Happy Parvati'. The British named it as Peacock Island by taking in consideration of its size and shape. There is a temple named Umananda Temple in the Island which also acts as magnet in terms of attracting tourists to the Island. Also, you can have a spectacular view of the Brahmaputra river and the Guwahati city from the Island.
6. Hajo
Hajo is a famous pilgrimage Site situated on the bank of the Brahmaputra river at a distance of about 24 kms from Guwahati city, Assam. It is a sacred place for three religions, Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism. There are many ancient temples and artifacts in Hajo for which it is famous among tourists. The Hayagriva Madhava Temple, Kedareswara Temple etc. are some of the most important Hindu temple in Hajo. The Powa Mecca(Poa Mecca), situated in Hajo is a sacred place for Muslims.
7. Nameri National Park
Nameri National Park is located on the Eastern Himalayan Foothills in the Sonitpur district of Assam, India, and is about 35 kilometers from the district headquarter Tezpur. It was officially declared as a National Park in 1998. It spreads across 200 sq. km area. It is mainly considered as an Elephant Reserve. Though, there are plenty of other types of animals who live here, they are- tiger, leopard, pygmy hog, sloth bear etc. It is also one of the most visited tourist attractions in Assam.
8. Guwahati city
Guwahati is the largest city of the Indian state of Assam. It is also the largest city in the entire state of North East India with an area of 328 sq. km. and about 1 million population according to the 2011 census. It is the headquarter of the Kamrup Metropolitan District of Assam, and also the Capital of Assam, Dispur, is located within Guwahati city. 9. Orang National Park
The Orang National Park is situated on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra river in the Darrang and Sonitpur districts of Assam, India. The park is also known as the Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park and it spreads across 78.81 sq. kms of land. The Orang National Park is home to Elephants, one horned Rhinoceros, Pygmy hog, Tiger and wild Buffalo's etc.
10. Pabitara Wildlife Sanctuary
The Pabitara Wildlife Sanctuary is a Wildlife Reserve located in the Morigaon district of the Indian state of Assam. The Wildlife Sanctuary is spread across 38.8 sq. kms of land. It is famous for being the habitat of the Indian One Horned Rhinoceros. In addition to One Horned Rhinoceros, the other animals who reside in the Pabitara Wildlife Sanctuary are leopard, wild Buffalo, barking deer etc.
